Domain Authority (DA)

Domain Authority is a metric developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank in search results.

Understanding Domain Authority (DA)

Domain Authority is a score from 1-100 created by Moz that attempts to predict a domain's ranking potential based on various factors including link profile strength. While not a Google metric, DA has become a widely used benchmark for comparing website authority. It's important to understand that DA is a third-party metric that attempts to reverse-engineer Google's algorithms. Google doesn't use DA in its rankings. However, because DA correlates with factors Google does use (primarily backlinks), it serves as a useful proxy for understanding relative website strength.

Why Domain Authority (DA) Matters

DA provides a quick way to assess website authority and competitive landscape. When evaluating link opportunities, targeting keywords, or assessing competitors, DA offers a standardized comparison metric. However, it should be one of many factors considered, not the sole determinant of strategy.
